How does it Work?

Vega 100mg contains the active ingredient sildenafil. It belongs to a group of medicines PDE5 inhibitors.

During sexual arousal, a molecule called nitric oxide (NO) is released within the penis. This increases levels of another molecule called the cGMP. cGMP causes the smooth muscles inside the penis to relax.

As a result, the blood vessels open wider allowing for blood to flow. It causes the corpus cavernosa (the spongy tissue in the penis) to swell. Thus, the penis becomes larger and stiff enough for sexual intercourse.

However, an enzyme called PDE5 breaks down cGMP molecules, ending the erection. PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil stop PDE5 from working too quickly. It prevents the cGMP breakdown. Hence, the action of nitric oxide is enhanced, promoting blood flow. This helps prolong the erection, making it firm enough for intercourse.

Note that Vega 100mg itself directly does not cause an erection. It helps the body respond better to sexual arousal. Sildenafil has no effect where sexual stimulation is absent.

Uses

• Erectile Dysfunction (ED):

Difficulty getting or keeping an erection firm enough to have sex. The condition is also known as ‘impotence’. It prevents some men from having a pleasant sexual performance.

• Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (PAH):

A type of high blood pressure in the arteries that carry blood to the lungs.

Recommended Dose

For ED, take a Vega 100mg tablet about 1 hour before sex. The whole tablet is swallowed with water. Do not take more than the recommended dose in 24 hours.

For first time users, a lower dose of sildenafil may be prescribed. This can minimize the risk of unpleasant effects.

For pulmonary hypertension, take it as prescribed by your doctor.

Missed Dose

For erectile dysfunction, Vega 100mg is taken as needed before sex. In that case, there is little chance of missing out on a dose.

If you forget to take a prescribed dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is about time for your next scheduled dose, just leave out the missed dose. Then keep taking the next doses as usual.

Overdose

Vega 100mg tablets need to be taken at the right dosage. Only then it can produce the desired results. Taking too much ED medication can lead to serious side effects. Talk to your doctor if there is an overdose.

Side Effects

Here are some possible side effects of Vega 100mg tablets:

• headache
• heartburn
• nausea
• flushing
• dizziness
• diarrhea
• nosebleeds
• numbness
• muscle pain
• nasal congestion

In rare cases, sildenafil can lead to:

• sudden loss of vision
• blurred vision
• loss of hearing
• ringing in ears
• chest pain
• difficulty in breathing
• painful erection that lasts longer than 4 hours

Safety Advice

• Vega tablets are generally safe when taken as prescribed.
• Let your doctor know if you have the following:
  • heart disease
  • stroke
  • low blood pressure
  • liver or kidney problems
  • bleeding disorder
  • or any other conditions

• Do not take Vega if you’re intolerant to sildenafil. Or, if you are taking nitrates for chest pain or heart problems.
• Learn about potential drug interactions including the ones listed above.
• Call your doctor if any side effects bother you.
• Vega may make you feel drowsy or affect your vision. Do not drive or operate hazardous machinery under its influence.
• Women should not use this medicine to improve sexual functions. However, sildenafil may be prescribed for men and women to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension.
• 100 mg is one of the highest doses available of sildenafil. Speak to your doctor before using the medicine for the first time.
• Vega 100mg should not be taken more than once a day.

Medical Interactions

Vega 100mg tablets may interact with certain other medications. This may change the way this drug works and increase the risk of side effects. Tell your pharmacist or doctor if you are taking:

• prescription drugs
• over-the-counter (OTC) medications
• vitamins
• herbs or any other supplement

The following drugs tend to have more severe interactions with sildenafil:

• nitrates (taken for chest pain)
• alpha-blockers (treat high blood pressure or hypertension)
• antifungals (such as itraconazole, ketoconazole)
• blood thinners such as warfarin
• barbiturates (treat improving sleep, reducing anxiety, muscle spasms)
• beta-blockers such as atenolol or carvedilol
• some antibiotics
• HIV protease inhibitors (used to treat viral infections)
• other ED medicines
• medicines for seizures

Storage

• Vega 100mg tablets should be stored at room temperature.
• The medicine should not be left in warm or humid places. Do not store it in the bathroom cabinet or near a sink. Heat, air, and steam can spoil the medicine.
• Do not repack the medicine. Store it in the original packaging until you consume it.
• Place the medicines in a locked cabinet where children and pets cannot reach.
• Do not take medicines that have expired or those no longer needed. Even if you have bought it recently, check the label. If you’ve taken expired medicines by mistake, inform your doctor.
• Discard any pills that have gone past their expiry date. Follow your local regulations and laws for their safe disposal.
