    What is Androgenetic Alopecia?

Androgenetic Alopecia is a condition of hair loss that is common in both men and women. It is also known as male pattern baldness for men. In Androgenetic Alopecia for men, hair is lost in a pattern, starting from the temples above. As time progress, the hairline recedes to take an “M” shape. Hair also starts to get thin. For women, the process is different. The hair does get thinner, but the hairline does not recede. It is common for men to get complete baldness, but not for women with Androgenetic Alopecia.

    Causes

Researchers are still unsure about the risk factors that can cause Androgenetic Alopecia. But they believe a variety of environmental and genetic factors can lead to this condition. They have learned Androgenetic Alopecia is related to Androgens. They are hormones that are crucial for sexual development. They also regulate sex drive and hair growth in both men and women. Researchers think some genes can contribute to this form of hair loss, but only variation in one gene called AR has been confirmed so far. This gene is crucial for making an androgen receptor, a protein that helps the body to respond to DHT or Dihydrotestosterone and other androgens properly. But it is still unclear how changes in genetics increase the chances of androgenetic alopecia in men and women. Researchers think some medical conditions, such as heart disease and prostate cancer, etc., can increase the risk of Androgenetic Alopecia as they can elevate androgen levels. But they continue to investigate the connection.

ITh medications also take a couple of months to show the results. It is needed to be taken continuously every day to notice the results. Q. What is hair loss?

Hair loss is the sudden or gradual process of heavy shedding of your hair. Shedding 50-100 strands of hair every day is completely normal, but if it goes beyond that it might be time to consider some help. Men and women both face hair loss but they show symptoms differently. For men, hair loss starts in their late 40s. Men also have a higher probability of going completely bald. This condition is called androgenic alopecia.

    Q. What are the early signs of hair loss?
The early signs of hair loss include
    • Excessive shedding
If you are losing more than 100-150 strands of hair every day, it is an early sign of male pattern baldness and deserves immediate attention. Approaching the problem immediately helps in controlling hair growth and preventing permanent damage.
    • Visible changes
If you notice visible changes in your appearance in mirrors and photos, where your hairline seems farther back or tapers from the corners, it is a sign. Over time, your hair feels different and doesn’t provide much coverage.
    • Hair thinning
Hair loss occurs in different areas and you experience bald patches resulting in a receding hairline. You start noticing hair appears thinner and damaged and exposes your scalp. It looks obviously visible in bright lighting and the hair looks thinner than normal.
    • Uneven hairline
Your previously symmetrical hairline starts appearing uneven, if you are uncertain take pictures to confirm. This could be an early sign of balding, it could cause asymmetrical hair loss leading you to go bald from one side.
    Q. When should you seek medical help?

Hair loss is a serious issue, but it is not to be mistaken with hair shedding which is normal. It is normal to shed 50 to 100 strands of hair every day. If you experience excessive hair loss, balding, or spots, you should immediately seek medical help. The quicker you address the symptoms, the easier it will be to prevent permanent damage. It is important to stay consistent with your medication and efforts to improve your hair health. Results take a few months to be noticeable, so don’t lose hope.

    Q. Which medications are best for hair loss?

The first course of treatment for hair loss is medication. Make medications like minoxidil and finasteride a part of your daily routine. These medications are scientifically-backed to improve the quality and volume of hair and stimulate hair growth. Check out our hair loss options for more information.

    Q. What happens if you stop using Minoxidil?

Minoxidil works as a hair growth promoter as long as you keep up with medication. If you quit the use of Minoxidil, you can expect to lose your progress as blood flow decreases to the hair follicles. Termination of the course at any time will lead to progressive hair loss within 12 to 24 weeks.
